Making things that interest me!

Passion Turned Into Profession…

I’m lucky enough to have been able to take my passion for experimenting and creating to the level where I can share it with others

I have been making things since I was allowed play with tools

About the Maker
Pigs Wood Workshop is the creative manifestation of Richard, a maker whose journey with wood began in childhood and has evolved into a passionate, full-time pursuit. The workshop is built on a simple, powerful philosophy: that the ability to create is universal, and the true magic lies in personal interpretation.
A Philosophy of Creative Freedom
The driving force behind every piece is the belief: “If someone else can make it, why can’t I make it and put my own spin on it?” This isn’t about replication, but about innovation and personal expression. It’s a mindset that champions curiosity over convention and celebrates the unique marks of the maker’s hand.
The Creative Process: Led by Inspiration
Richard’s work refuses to be confined to a single category or product line. Instead, the workshop’s output is a direct reflection of a restless creativity. One day might be dedicated to the meditative practice of woodturning, the next to designing a statement lighting piece, and the next to bringing a abstract idea to life as wall art. This fluid approach means the portfolio is constantly evolving, representing a genuine journal of creative exploration.
The Guarantee of Uniqueness
A fundamental tenet of Pigs Wood Workshop is that every piece is one-of-a-kind. Richard’s brain, as he puts it, “doesn’t really allow for the creation of multiples.” This inherent characteristic is the heart of the brand. When you acquire a piece from Pigs Wood Workshop, you are not purchasing a mass-produced item; you are investing in a unique work of art that cannot be exactly replicated. Each piece carries the story of its making and the specific inspiration of a moment in time.
Welcome to the Workshop
Pigs Wood Workshop is more than a brand—it’s an invitation to appreciate the beauty of bespoke creation. Thank you for visiting and for supporting the art of the unique.

Life has a way of circling back: an unexpected call from an old archaeology colleague pulled me into teaching international students — a role I’ve loved part-time for the past seven years. Then, during the quiet of the pandemic, I co-founded Anthology, an art and design shop in the charming town of Abbeyleix.
That venture rekindled my love for hands-on creation, pushing me to explore woodworking, jewellery design, and digital art.Today, I thrive on inspiration—whether it’s a historical artifact, a natural texture, or a fleeting idea. I take that spark and twist it, blend it, or reimagine it into something uniquely mine. From functional wood pieces to wearable art, my work is a reflection of lifelong curiosity and the joy of making.

When I’m not teaching, tinkering, or running the shop, you’ll find me dreaming up the next project—because for me, creating isn’t just what I do; it’s how I see the world.
